Your phone can tell you the wind speed at the airport. It cannot tell you the wind on your roof, at the end of the dock or in front of an air vent. That is what an anemometer (a wind meter) is for. Black Friday is a good moment to get one, as long as you pick the type that measures what you actually want to know.
Short answer: Black Friday 2026 falls on Friday, November 27, and Cyber Monday on November 30. Our shortlist: the BTMETER BT-100 (simple handheld wind meter), the AOPUTTRIVER AP-856A (handheld with airflow volume and USB data logging), the Kestrel 5700 Elite (rugged field meter with advanced ballistic features) and, for wind data around the clock, the WeatherFlow Tempest weather station. We mark a deal as verified only when the price is below that model's own recent price history.

How to Tell if a Black Friday Anemometer Deal Is Actually Good
Wind meters are popular gifts, so the crossed-out prices come out early. But a "was" price does not automatically tell you whether today's price is unusually low. These checks take about two minutes.
1. Compare with the meter's own price history
Look up the exact listing in a price tracker such as camelcamelcamel or Keepa and compare today's price with the last three months.
2. Check the type: handheld or weather station
- A handheld wind meter (BT-100, AP-856A, Kestrel) measures the wind where you hold it, right now. Perfect for a drone launch, a sailing trip or an air vent. It does not keep watch while you sleep.
- A weather station (such as the Tempest) measures the wind at home all day and keeps the history, gusts included. See our Black Friday weather station deals for more options.
- Speed or direction? Simple handheld vane meters measure wind speed only. If you need direction too, check that the product lists it.
3. Check the exact model and version
Wind meters come in many look-alike versions. Compare the full model number and what is in the box (case, cable, software). For the Kestrel, check which 5700 version and options the listing includes before comparing prices.
4. Read the return terms before you pay
On Amazon, the holiday return window for 2025 covered most items bought between November 1 and December 31, returnable until January 31, 2026 (Amazon). Check whether the same window applies in 2026, and who the seller is.
5. A small discount on the right meter beats a big discount on the wrong one
A cheap handheld meter is a great buy for the beach. It is the wrong buy if you wanted to know how strong last night's gusts were. Decide what you need first, then compare prices.
Don't Let the Discount Choose Your Wind Meter
Answer these questions first. They narrow the choice faster than any percentage.
| Question | Why it matters |
|---|---|
| Where do you want to measure: outdoors in one spot, in a duct, or at home all day? | Handheld meters measure where you hold them; a weather station measures at home around the clock. |
| Do you need air volume (CFM) for vents and ducts? | The AP-856A calculates airflow volume when you enter the vent size; a simple meter only shows speed. |
| Do you want to save the readings? | The AP-856A can log data to a computer over USB; the Tempest keeps the history in its app. |
| Will it be dropped, rained on or used in the field? | The Kestrel 5700 Elite is drop tested and sealed against water; budget handhelds are made for lighter use. |
| Do you only need a quick reading now and then? | A simple handheld such as the BT-100 is all you need. |

Get Good Readings From Day One
- Hold it away from your body and face the wind; your own body blocks the flow.
- Look at the average, not only the gust. Gusts are usually well above the average wind speed.
- Measure in the open. Trees and buildings slow the wind behind them; our anemometer page explains placement and the Beaufort scale.
Black Friday or Cyber Monday: What to Buy Now and What Can Wait
| Situation | Our advice |
|---|---|
| It is a gift | Check the seller's holiday return window. Wind meters are a popular gift for drone pilots, sailors and weather fans. |
| You need it for work (HVAC) | Buy when the price is fair; a few dollars are not worth waiting for when jobs are waiting. |
| You want a weather station for home | Install before the ground freezes if you can; see our weather station deals. |
| The price is not below its recent history | Wait a few days; prices often move between Black Friday (November 27) and Cyber Monday (November 30). |
What to Skip
- A handheld meter if you really want wind history; a weather station keeps watch when you are not there.
- Look-alike meters with no model number or manual: you cannot compare them or get support.
- "Deals" you can only compare against a list price. If you cannot see what it sold for last month, you cannot know if it is a deal.
- Countdown pressure. Wind meters go on sale several times a year.
Black Friday Anemometer FAQ
When is Black Friday 2026?
Black Friday 2026 is on Friday, November 27, the day after Thanksgiving (November 26). Cyber Monday is on November 30, 2026.
Do anemometers go on sale for Black Friday?
Handheld wind meters and weather stations are often discounted during big sales, but offers differ by seller and year. Check the current price against the product's recent price history.
Handheld anemometer or weather station: which should I buy?
A handheld meter measures the wind where you hold it, right now: ideal for drones, sailing and air vents. A weather station measures the wind at home all day and keeps the history, including gusts.
Can my phone measure wind speed?
No. Phones have no wind sensor; wind apps show data from nearby weather stations. To measure the wind where you are, you need an anemometer or a weather station.
Is an anemometer a good gift?
Often, yes, for drone pilots, sailors, kite flyers, shooters and weather fans. Match the type to how they will use it, and check the seller's holiday return window.
How can I check the price history of a wind meter?
For Amazon listings, use a price tracker such as camelcamelcamel or Keepa: search for the exact product or paste the listing link, and look at the price over the last three months.
