Cracked, chewed or blown off in a storm: wind cups are the part of a weather sensor that takes the most beating, and with AcuRite you can usually replace just that part instead of the whole station. The catch is that each AcuRite sensor line has its own wind cups, and sometimes the real problem is not the cups at all. This page helps you check both before you order.
Short answer: AcuRite lists different wind cups per sensor line: 06031RM for the Iris (5-in-1) (its compatibility chart writes 06031M); 06030RM for the Notos (3-in-1); and 06078M for the Atlas (7-in-1). On the Iris, swapping them takes three steps from AcuRite's manual: pull the old cups off, line the new ones up with the spindle, press them on. But if your cups are whole and simply do not spin, AcuRite says the bearings may be worn, and then you need the wind cup assembly (12123-5N1WCBSA) instead. Which AcuRite Wind Cups Fit Your Sensor?
AcuRite makes different wind cups for each sensor line, and they are not interchangeable. Its compatibility charts list these:

| Your sensor | Wind cups (per AcuRite) | Other wind parts AcuRite lists |
|---|---|---|
| Iris (5-in-1) | 06031RM (the compatibility chart writes 06031M). AcuRite: "for use with any AcuRite Iris (5-in-1) Weather Sensor". | Wind cup assembly 12123-5N1WCBSA (cups and bearings), wind vane 12141-5N1VANE |
| Notos (3-in-1) | 06030RM. AcuRite: "for use with any AcuRite 3-in-1 Weather Sensor". | None listed |
| Atlas (7-in-1) | 06078M | Wind vane 06079M, wind assembly 06094M |

Is It Really the Wind Cups?
Before you order, match what you see with what AcuRite says it means:
| What you see | What AcuRite says | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| Cups cracked, broken or missing | The cups can be replaced on their own | Order the cups for your line (table above) |
| Cups whole, but they hesitate or stop | Try lubricant first (WD-40 or graphite powder) | Lubricate as described below |
| Iris: cups do not spin, or wind reads low, although the sensor is mounted properly | The anemometer bearings may be worn and need replacing | Wind cup assembly 12123-5N1WCBSA, not just the cups |
| Atlas: no wind speed at all | Cups can shift during shipping; also check the two magnets glued inside the cups | Pull the cups down until they click; if a magnet is missing, replacement cups are needed |
| Wind seems low compared with the news | Professional stations are typically mounted at 33 feet or higher | Compare with a sensor at the same height; the cups may be fine |

The lubricating routine AcuRite gives for the Iris: remove the screw below the wind cups, spray a small amount of lubricant into the hole, turn the sensor upside down and back a few times, and put the screw back. No screw on your model? Remove the wind cups if you can and put the lubricant directly on the spindle underneath. If the wind speed still reads zero after that, start with the reset in our Iris troubleshooting guide.
How to Replace the Iris (5-in-1) Wind Cups
These are the three steps from AcuRite's instruction manual for the 5-in-1 sensor wind cups (model 11145-5N1WC):
- Pull the old cups off. Put your fingers between the wind cups and pull the base of the cup assembly away from the sensor, while you hold the sensor with your other hand. AcuRite's tip: hold the sensor close to your body for more pulling strength. Careful: broken edges can be sharp.
- Line up the new cups. Line up the mounting hole of the new cups with the spindle on the sensor. AcuRite suggests one drop of light machine oil or spray lubricant on the spindle, so the anemometer spins freely.
- Press them on. Push the cups onto the spindle and apply pressure until they are properly secured.
For the Notos and Atlas cups, follow the instructions that come with the part.

When You Need the Wind Cup Assembly Instead
AcuRite's bearing kit manual is clear about when this applies: no wind speed readings, or lower wind speed than expected, while the sensor is mounted properly. Then the bearings of the anemometer may be worn. The Iris wind cup assembly (12123-5N1WCBSA) replaces the cups and the bearings together. It is a bigger job than the cups, so here is what the manual says to expect:
- You need to take the sensor down from its mount, and a Phillips screwdriver. The manual also says to remove the batteries from the sensor while you handle it, to avoid false rain or wind readings.
- Remove four long screws to separate the upper white part from the lower gray part, then four short screws near the fan.
- Take out the old wind speed and solar assembly, put the new one in, and put all screws back (the short ones hand-tight).
AcuRite reminds you that the electronics inside are sensitive, so handle the parts with care. Follow the full steps in the manual that comes with the kit.

AcuRite Wind Cups FAQ
Which wind cups fit the AcuRite Iris 5-in-1?
06031RM, according to AcuRite's product page (its compatibility chart writes 06031M). AcuRite says it is for use with any AcuRite Iris (5-in-1) weather sensor.
Do Iris wind cups fit the Atlas or Notos?
No. AcuRite lists separate wind cups per line: 06030RM for the Notos (3-in-1) and 06078M for the Atlas (7-in-1).
My wind cups are fine but do not spin. What now?
AcuRite suggests lubricating first. On the Iris, if the cups still do not spin while the sensor is mounted properly, the bearings may be worn and AcuRite points to the wind cup assembly 12123-5N1WCBSA, which replaces cups and bearings together.
Do I need tools to replace AcuRite Iris wind cups?
Not according to AcuRite's 5-in-1 wind cup manual: you pull the old cups off by hand and press the new ones onto the spindle. The wind cup assembly (bearing kit) does need a Phillips screwdriver.
