FosPower Emergency Weather Radio (A1) Review: What 7,400 mWh Really Means

The FosPower A1 is an orange hand crank radio with AM, FM and the NOAA weather band, a flashlight, a reading light, an SOS alarm and a "7400mWh" power bank, charged by crank, sun or USB, with AAA batteries as a backup. We went through FosPower's manual, the UL 2056 safety test report for its power bank and the current Amazon listing to see what you really get. Short version: on paper, a sensible little blackout and go-bag radio, but not a weather alert radio, and not a big phone charger.

Which FosPower Is This? Pick "Model A1"

The Amazon listing for this radio is a picker with several FosPower radios on one page. The Model A1 comes in orange, solid black, green and red. The same page also offers Model A3, A6, D8 and D9, which are different radios. Everything on this page is about the A1 (model number FOSPWB-2376): the manual and test report we used do not cover the other models. We also cannot confirm that every color of the A1 is identical inside; FosPower's manual is titled for the orange version.

The "7400mWh" Power Bank in One Paragraph

7,400 mWh is simply the battery: 2,000 mAh at 3.7 volts. What reaches your phone through the 5-volt USB port is rated at 750 mAh, roughly half that energy, and the lab measured 759.8 mAh. Keeping It Running

• Crank: one minute gives about 20 minutes of light or 10 to 15 minutes of radio (manual).
• Solar: a slow top-up, rated at 0.03 A in the test report.
• USB: about 4.5 hours for a full charge (manual).
• AAA batteries: run the radio when the internal battery is empty.

Weather Band Yes, Weather Alerts No

This is the most important thing to understand before you buy. The A1 receives the NOAA weather band, so you can listen to your local National Weather Service broadcast. But the manual describes no alert function: no siren that wakes you when a tornado warning is issued, and no SAME county filtering. You only hear a warning if the radio is on and tuned in at that moment.

What to Expect, in Short

From the documents, this is a simple radio with honest limits: easy controls (a band switch, a tuning knob with a "TUN" light and a volume dial), several ways to keep it running, and a modest power bank. Do not expect it to charge a phone fully (750 mAh rated output), to wake you for warnings (no alert function) or to survive a dunk (IPX-3). We have not used the radio ourselves.

Who the FosPower A1 Suits

Keeping it in a car? The test report gives a use range of 14 to 140 °F and a charging range of 32 to 113 °F; a parked car in summer can get hotter than that.
