How to use the code
- Open the menu of your radio and find the setting for SAME or county codes.
- Enter the 6 digits for your parish and save.
- Set the channel to a frequency from the table. If more than one is listed, keep the one that sounds clearest at your house.
Live near the edge of your parish? Many radios can store more than one code, so you can add the neighbours you care about. Buttons differ per brand: see how to program SAME codes and how to program a Midland weather radio.
Why the nearest transmitter is not always the best one
The National Weather Service says a reliable signal "typically extends in about a 40 mile radius from the transmitter, assuming level terrain", and that some places have no reliable reception because of blockages or distance. A transmitter in the next state can come in better than the one in your own parish. That is why some rows show a transmitter across the state line.

Where this comes from: a copy of the National Weather Service's NOAA Weather Radio county coverage listing, copied on October 11, 2026. We added nothing and estimated nothing; the coverage remarks are the Weather Service's own. For today's status of a transmitter the official listing is the one to trust.
